On 31 August 2018, the Centre for Legal Innovation held its second annual AI in Legal Practice Summit in Sydney. The Opening Plenary Panel discussion addressed the question “Between AI and LegalTech, What’s Really Left for Lawyers to Do?” Moderated by Warrick McLean, Chief Executive Officer, Coleman Greig Lawyers, panellists Nicola Atkinson, Research Fellow, CLI; Marcus McCarthy, Principal, Nexus Law Group; James Odell, Managing Director Australia and Asia Pacific, Elevate Services; and Caryn Sandler, Partner & Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer, Gilbert + Tobin; challenged assumptions about lawyer/legal work, shared their experience, experiments and collaborations in future-proofing the legal workforce and how they have addressed the impact of AI and LegalTech in their work and practices.
