Technology's greatest benefit is not to lower cost or increase efficiency. It’s not even to improve accuracy. The best opportunity that technology offers us is to restore the trust between a professional and client.

Historically, the most sacred professions lived with an untested level of trust. Over time, that trust has been eroded by the administration of burdens, competing interests and systems designed not for the human. We are now seeing a shift globally as a result of what society expects.

These are some lessons learned by a lawyer, doctor, and a person with a spinal cord injury about how to regain that trust and to put the human being back at the centre of what we do in a technologically-driven world.

What if we're all wrong?

In this impact intervention session, Sam Shosanya challenges one of the most common assumptions leaders make about people and change: that hesitation means unwillingness or lack of capability.

Often, the real issue is threat. When people feel their status, competence or professional identity is at risk, they become more cautious, less curious and less willing to experiment. And no amount of telling them to "just embrace change” fixes that.

The leadership task is different. Before asking people to swim, help them find the floor: what is still true, what still matters, where it is safe to try, and what the next move is.

Expect a sharp challenge to how we diagnose resistance, how we think about generational differences, and how we create the conditions for people to move - and thrive.

If change is too slow, the first question may not be “what do they need to learn?” It may be “what do they believe they are about to lose?”
